The Country Music Association Awards announced its nominees on Monday, and one name that stood out for its absence was Beyoncé. Even though her album “Cowboy Carter” became one of the year’s most significant country releases, it was not included in the nominations. In contrast, other artists who dipped into the genre this year, such as Post Malone, received multiple nominations.

Social media expressed particular frustration over the lack of acknowledgment for the album’s lead single, “Texas Hold ‘Em,” from the Country Music Association. This association encompasses a broad range of industry professionals, including music executives, publicists, songwriters, and artists. “Texas Hold ‘Em” achieved a historic milestone by making Beyoncé the first Black woman to top the Billboard country chart, where it remained at No. 1 for 10 weeks. Additionally, seven other tracks from the album reached the top 10, and the album itself dominated the country albums chart for four weeks.

In an Instagram post earlier this year, Beyoncé shared that “Cowboy Carter” was inspired by an experience from years ago when she felt unwelcome and clearly excluded. This experience motivated her to delve deeper into country music’s history and overcome the “criticisms” she faced upon entering the genre. Five years later, “Cowboy Carter” emerged as a result. The incident she referred to likely involves her surprise performance of “Daddy Lessons” with The Chicks at the 2016 CMA Awards, which, despite enthusiastic reactions from the audience, led to criticism and racist attacks claiming she didn’t belong on the country stage.

Eight years later, the awards show has yet again excluded her, despite her eligibility for categories such as single, song, album, female vocalist, and music event of the year. Meanwhile, Post Malone, who collaborated with Beyoncé on “LEVII’S JEANS,” received four nominations for his No. 1 duet with Morgan Wallen, “I Had Some Help.” Shaboozey, featured on two tracks from “Cowboy Carter,” earned two nominations for Best New Artist and Single of the Year with “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” which has dominated the country charts for 12 weeks.
