Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” is set to dominate the 67th annual Grammy Awards, competing in five major categories. Eminem, a longtime admirer of the Compton rapper, is predicting a clean sweep for Lamar. During the SiriusXM “Shade 45” 20th anniversary special on Tuesday (Dec. 24), the Detroit legend didn’t hold back in sharing his thoughts on the upcoming Grammys. “It’s very stiff competition. Kendrick is gonna sweep that s**t. … He’s going to, and he should,” Eminem declared in an excerpt from the show.
Lamar’s critically acclaimed track “Not Like Us” is in the running for Record of the Year, where it faces formidable contenders like Beyoncé’s “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM,” Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso,” and Taylor Swift’s “Fortnight” featuring Post Malone. The song is also competing in the Song of the Year, Best Music Video, Best Rap Song, and Best Rap Performance categories. Adding to his impressive tally, Lamar earned two additional nominations in the latter two categories for his contributions to Metro Boomin and Future’s hit “Like That.”
While Kendrick Lamar’s star shines bright, Eminem is also making waves at the Grammys. His single “Houdini” is nominated for Best Rap Performance, going head-to-head with tracks like Cardi B’s “Enough (Miami),” Doechii’s “NISSAN ALTIMA,” Common and Pete Rock’s “When The Sun Shines Again,” and GloRilla’s “Yeah Glo!” The Detroit rapper is also eyeing a win in the Best Rap Album category with his project The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce).
Interestingly, Eminem has referenced Lamar multiple times in his latest album. On tracks like “Lucifer” and the opening song “Renaissance,” he embodies the voice of a critic, rapping lines like: “Kendrick’s album was cool, but it didn’t have any bangers / Wayne’s album or Ye’s, couldn’t tell you which one was lamer / You nerdy pricks would find somethin’ wrong with 36 Chambers / It’s what they do to the greats / Pick apart a Picasso and make excuses to hate.” These lyrics highlight the scrutiny that comes with greatness, a topic both rappers know well.
Eminem and Lamar’s history of collaboration adds depth to their mutual respect. The two performed together at the Super Bowl LVI halftime show in 2022, where Lamar delivered a powerful rendition of “m.A.A.d city.” Now, the Pulitzer Prize-winning rapper is preparing to headline the Super Bowl halftime show for the first time in February 2025, a moment fans are eagerly anticipating.
As the 67th annual Grammy Awards approach, all eyes are on Kendrick Lamar. With Eminem’s glowing endorsement and a strong presence across multiple categories, the Compton rapper is poised to leave an indelible mark on music’s biggest night.
