Sevilya Hendrickx-Rai discovered her love for classical music early in life. As a second-generation classical musician, she now shares her passion at the Vancouver Island Conservatory of Music and Arts, located in Port Alberni.

Hendrickx-Rai comes from a family of classical musicians. Her formal training took place “in two culturally vibrant yet different countries,” she explained. She studied in the Russian Federation and experienced contemporary music in the Netherlands at the Royal Conservatory.

In addition to her extensive musical pursuits, she performed as guest principal viola with the Vancouver Opera in 2022.

Hendrickx-Rai provides group lessons for children between the ages of four and nine to explore classical music and art. She guides them through singing, playing various musical instruments, and creating art in multiple forms.

“Let the wonder of music and art ignite inspiration in your little ones,” she said. “Music promotes learning, fosters respect and pride, and boosts self-esteem along with positive social interaction.”
