Leifur James has unveiled plans for his third album, ‘Magic Seeds’.
Created in London with Leifur at the helm, the album features contributions from key collaborators, including drummer Leo Taylor (Floating Points Ensemble), violinist Raven Bush (Speakers Corner Quartet), and producer/engineer Oli Bayston. Set for release on November 8th via Night Time Stories, the new single ‘Smoke In The Air’ showcases Leifur’s artistic vision, blending vaporized soul, late-night electronic elements, and a touch of jazz.
Leifur reflects…
“My response to the song was shaped by conversations with James about its deeper meaning for him. From there, I aimed to create something that conveys how we interact as individuals — how we are both isolated in our own experiences yet also reflect and absorb those around us. It explores how we protect ourselves and when we choose to open up. This feels especially relevant when forming new relationships, where we become more aware of who we are, who we aspire to be, and develop strong opinions and emotions about the other person.
Our behavior and perceptions of others are so influenced by the contexts and environments we find ourselves in, creating a complex, all-encompassing mix. While working on this, I kept recalling one of my first university assignments (during my brief time there), which was to express the feeling of hugging someone you barely know.”
